PM hails flourishing Vietnam-Australia relations

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam-Australia cooperation continued to blossom in various fields, especially bringing about a sharp increase in trade, investment and official development assistance (ODA).
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung made the remark while receiving former Australian PM Paul Keating in Hanoi on August 27.
Australia is now among Vietnam ’s 10 biggest trade partners, and it has 174 direct investment projects worth over 1 billion USD in total in the country.

RoK pledges to help Vietnam with agricultural development

Hanoi (VNA) –The Republic of Korea wants to share advanced science and technology with Vietnam to help the latter develop a comprehensive agriculture, said a RoK official.

Chairman of the RoK Special Committee for Agriculture, Fishery and Rural Areas Lee Sang-mu made the statement when meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung in Hanoi on August 21.

Japan's Parliament endorses free trade deal with ASEAN

Tokyo (VNA) - Japan's Parliament, the Diet, has endorsed a free trade agreement with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the first of its kind between Japan and a regional organisation.

ASEAN countries talk single market

HA NOI — The second ASEAN Consultative Committee for Standards and Quality (ACCSQ) Forum, was held today in conjunction with a Seminar on Information Security Management Systems.

This forum aims to promote conformity of standards in ASEAN countries, to support the realisation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), as a single market plugged into the global economy, said Shirly Ramesh.

PM greets Cuban, Oz ambassadors

HA NOI — The Vietnamese Party and people always did their utmost to enhance the friendship between Viet Nam and Cuba to provide practical benefits for the two countries, said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung yesterday.

While receiving the newly-accredited Cuban Ambassador to Viet Nam, Frendesman Turro Gongalez, in Ha Noi, Dung said Viet Nam and Cuba had a fine, traditional friendship, particularly in the fields of politics and foreign affairs.

However, he said, the economic ties between the two countries had failed to match their potential.
